Welcome to Bellevue Heights Primary School
Welcome to the Bellevue Heights Primary School website.
Bellevue Heights Primary is a dynamic and
vibrant school in the foothills of
We are a welcoming community of learners who pride ourselves in catering for the learning and social needs of all students. The school's multicultural nature enhances wellbeing and fosters global understanding and inquiry as students learn about caring for the world and its people. The motto, 'Learning and growing together to enrich the world', is reflected in the school's values, curriculum and policies.
There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy development with extensive early intervention support where identified. Early years classes use the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programs to establish sound literacy skills. The Australian National Curriculum is the basis for all curriculum content.
Specialist subjects are Music, French and Art. Students have the opportunity to learn musical instruments from Year 3 onwards. Lessons are available in strings, keyboards and guitars. All classes participate in class based physical lessons as well as an option to be involved in school sport on Saturday mornings and through various sporting clinics organised throughout the year.
Embedding the use of ICT in all teaching and learning is a focus and innovative technology is embraced across all curriculum areas. From Reception through to Year 7, students compile an intranet portfolio of work which incorporates all curriculum areas and is continuously added to. Part of the Year 7 graduation is to present the students with a DVD compilation of their accumulated portfolio. Activities in the portfolio include: date presentation, spreadsheets, movie making, robotics, computer assisted drawing and word processing. Teachers make extensive use of interactive whiteboards, which are in every classroom, to enhance the teaching and learning program.
Learning outcomes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) are extended through the use of a robotics program that is implemented from Reception to Year 7, animated movie making, innovative computer software programs and interactive programs. The school enters the primary school section of the Robo Cup (a competition where students design, build and program lego robots). We have been very successful in the competition winning it 3 times and being runner up twice in the last 5 years. We participated in the National Championships in 2015. Our staff is experienced, motivated and committed to providing all students with the necessary skills to meet the learning challenges of the 21st century.
The school is building a strong sustainability program focussing on yard redevelopment, Nature Play facilities, a vegetable and fruit garden, chicken yard, native plant revegetation, stormwater use, solar power and recycling. Students play a leading role in developing the direction of this program. Our indoor and outdoor learning areas, including the gym and library facilities, are spacious, well designed, beautifully landscaped and inviting.
Respect, caring and honesty are developed in our students on their lifelong journey of learning. We believe students learn best when they can have a realistic and active role in their learning. A strong student governance program exists with all senior students having leadership roles. Our professional staff supports all students to reach their potential and personal goals. The school community is a close-knit and welcoming group.
There are many community groups using the school facilities. These groups cover a broad community spectrum from sporting groups to environmental groups. There is an active and involved Parents and Friends group and a strong and active Governing Council.
